1. Place water, cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, soy sauce and kecap manis in a large, deep saucepan. Add ribs, then bring to boil.
2. Reduce heat slightly and gently boil, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
3. Remove ribs from stock and place in a medium baking dish. Strain stock, reserving 1 cup.
4. To make the glaze, combine all ingredients and 1 cup of reserved stock in a jug.
5. Pour the glaze over ribs in baking dish.
6. Cook, uncovered, in a hot oven (200C), turning ribs occasionally, for 1 hour or until well-browned.
7. Using a sharp knife, cut ribs into portions and brush with glaze in the baking dish.
8. Serve ribs with combined boiled rice, coriander and spring onions.
American-style pork ribs can be cooked in the stock and kept in the refrigerator overnight. Cook ribs in the glaze just before serving.

what is star anise?
the glaze used in this recipe is very nice on beef, lamb , roast.
didnt relize how easy it was to do it.
